15 Games in NCAA’s Decided by 4 pts. or less

Posted by Barry

It get curiouser and curiouser. Amazing all the close games. So many have been decided in the last couple of minutes on the foul line. If you look closely, most are decided by either number of foul shots taken, % of foul shots made or clutch foul shots. For example, if the Pitt player makes his 2nd foul shot, his teammate wouldn’t have fouled…game over. It’s really foolish to underestimate  the importance of foul shooting.

6 Games in Tournament Decided by 2 pts or less

Players and Coaches: You don’t think foul shooting is that important? The first round is not even done yet and 6 games have been decided by 2 or less points. Just ask NOVA what the others what they think. What do you think?

Chat w/ Confidence Coach re: Dwight Howard

Posted by Barry

Steve Tarde: Dwight writes to me. Steve, I know you are a Confidence Coach, but hey, I am Superman. Could use some help with free throws. Why can’t I make those shitty shots? I don’t have a clue.

Foul Shot Doc Tell Dwight Howard to ask Jameer Nelson about me. Although he thinks I’m nuts ( I have some different teaching techniques), Jameer improved from 68% to 78% and 31% to 43% in 3 pt shooting(8th in NBA) after I worked w/ him. Jameer recommended Trevor Ariza who improved from 47% on the line to 70% after I made three trips to Orlando. I’m here for the asking

Steve Tarde: I have heard Jameer talk about you, That’s why I plugged you. If I get picked up be a lady’s team to be their confidence coach, I might ask that they bring you in as well.

Foul Shot Doc What did Jameer say?

Foul Shot Doc I guarantee I could make Howard a better foul shot shooter. He doesn’t have to pay me.

Melo to The Knicks

Posted by Barry

Carmelo Anthony finally got traded to the Knicks. Athough the Knick gave some talent and potential talent, they got more star power and can always get role players to fill in. “D” and rebounding may be an issue this yr. Billups as a throw in is an absolute steal. Great leadership in running offense and of course Mr. Big Shot. Shout out to my main Left Coast man, Greg Newell. Gotta love him since it seems we agree on everything all the time. Greg is Pete’s son. For the younger folks who never heard of Pete Newell, google him. Amazing impact on the basketball you are watching today. What do you think of the trade?

Pat Da Roc at the Super Bowl

Posted by Barry

I wanted to say congrats to Patrick Robinson aka Pat Da Roc who is going to make an appearance at the celebrity basketball game prior to the Super Bowl. Pat an amazing dribbler was with the Harlem Globetrotters for awhile. He worked out w/ me last Spring looking to improve his jumpshot.

Congrats to Bob Hurley, Sr.

Quick shout out to Bob Hurley on his 1000th victory. Already in the Basketball Hall of Fame, the legendary coach is the epitome of what a coach should be. He teaching on the court is well known but much more impressive is work off the court and in the community.

Poor Foul Shooting

Posted by Barry

It continues to amaze me how frequently foul shooting determines outcome of games. The winning team almost always has the higher percentage as well as attempts. It’s even more amazing the lack of time players, coaches and teams spend on this important skill.

Excellent Reading

Posted by Barry

Just finished a terrific book called “A Good Man” about former coach Pete Newell. I know a lot of younger folks never heard of him, but he wad a truly innovative coach who along with Dean Smith and Bobby Knight were the only coah to win the NIT, NCAA and Olympics He retired from Cal in 1960 but continued to hold “Big Man Camps” for top NBA players while refusing pay.It is well written, poignant, funny and heart warming. Truly an unique character. If you love hoops and are a student of the game, it is a must read.

Fun Time Yesterday

Posted by Barry

Had loads of fun yesterday. In the morning hosted a basketball clinic at No. Brunswick HS. Wide range of talent, from very skilled to some kids running up the court, forgetting they were supposed to dribble.
In the evening, got to workout Tony Ellington, a very gifted 8th grade prospect. A hard worker and good listener, Tony is destined for big success on and off the court. Looking forward to working with him through the years.
