Durant MVP

Posted by Barry

How in the world is Kevin Durant not even in most folks conversation when it comes to league MVP? I know Rose, w/ the NBA hype machine behind him, has played real well. Kobe, LeBron and Dwight Howard have been mentioned plenty. Hardly anybody talks about Durant. OK City would be a lottery pick team without him. Thoughts?

Miami beats Sixers by 8 pts, going 31-39 from the line vs. 12-15 by Sixers. 19 pt. advantage at the line. LeBron goes 13-14.
Bulls beat Pacers by 5 going 26-32 for 82% while Pacers go 11-17 for 64%. 15 pt. advantage from the line. Rose goes 19-21.
Mavs beat Blazers by 8 going 25-29 for 86% while Blazer go 9-13, 16 pt. advantage as Nowitzki goes 13-13.
Magic lose by 10 as Howard’s great game is marred by his typical horrific free throw shooting in 2nd half. How about Jameer’s 20 pt. 3rd quarter?

NBA Playoffs and Foul Shooting

Posted by Barry

Looking at team stats this morning, interesting to see how many teams missed playoffs or are have lower seedings due to poor free throw shooting. Percentages have increased a bit over the last couple of years. So many games in NBA are decided by late game foul shots it’s still surprising it’s not a major point of emphasis.

No More Sacremento Kings

Posted by Barry

Once an original NBA franchise as the Rochester Royals, the Kings are moving again. In Rochester, Seton Hall grad Bob Davies became a HOFer, In Cincinnati, the Royals were home to Jerry Lucas and “The Big O” , Oscar Robertson. Then they were the Kansas City Kings,  Kansas City-Omaha Kings w/ Tiny Archibald and finally Sacremento Kings. Decent contending teams albiet Chris Webber’s disappearing act late in games. Now what, the Anaheim Disney Wonders? Any thoughts?

NCAA Finalists Determined by Foul Shooting

Posted by Barry

Butler and Uconn are playing for the National Championship tomorrow based on foul shooting. Butler beat VCU 70-62 as the Bulldogs shot 20-26 for 77% as Matt Howard led way w/ 11-12, more than entire VCU team. VCU shot 8-13 or 61% in loss.(12 Pts less in 6pt. loss). UConn was 9-11 from the line in 1 pt victory as Kentucky went a horrific 4-12. Any coaches or players out there underestimate foul shooting or the reason for The Foul Shot Doc?
