Welcome to my Blog

Hi,
My name is Barry Wolfson, also known as the Foul Shot Doc.
It’s New Year’s Day 2008 and I’ve decided that’s it is a good day to start a blog to share my thoughts re: foul shooting. I figured if NBA star Gilbert Arenas, Agent Zero, can do it, why not me.
It’s my hope to share [...]

Same Old, Same Old

With the NBA season 1/4 over and college season 1/2 over I could write the same blog every day re: foul shooting. Example: Lakers beat Clippers by 5 pts. last night even though they made 5 more baskets. Usually, the team w/ higher percentage wins. The Clips, though much improved, are going nowhere w/ Blake [...]

35 % of all points scored in a game’s last 5 minutes are free throws.
67 % of all points scored in the last minute by the winning team are free throws.
Do [...]

NBA Gives Hoops to Fans

Been a long time since I blogged. Was so frustrated w/ the lockout. The billionaires vs millionaires wasn’t worth my thoughts. The only ones hurt were the fans, most of whom can’t afford NBA ticket prices anyway. 5 games on the tube today w/ Dallas getting their championship rings. Ironic, but many of their players [...]

From freshman algebra to the present, he has been a wonderful teacher, mentor and friend. He shared so much of himself to me. His growing up, his experiences as a player, coach and man.
Rutgers Loses Due to Foul Shooting

Rutgers loses by 6 to Ill. St. 76-70. RU shoot 8-18 (below 50%) while Ill St. goes 28-38 from the line. That means Ill. St shot 20 more foul shots and made 20 more foul shots. And coaches don’t think spending lots of time on free throw shooting is important.

Thanksgiving Thoughts

Wanted to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgivng.
I live in a old stone house near the Delaware River that was an inn during colonial days. In fact, Martha Washington stayed here and there is even a 3 seater outhouse between the house and my garden. This time of year, I often think about the struggles our [...]

St. John’s Loss vs. Texas A & M

Down 1 pt. with 2.3 seconds left Nurideen Lindsey of St. John missed 2 free throws which would have won game. He was 8-16 for the game as St. John’s was 22-38 for 57 percent. Ironically, Texas A & M only shot 3 foul shots.

RIP Ed Lyons

Ed Lyons left his body last Friday. Ed was a mentor and friend when as Athletic Director he hired me to coach at Upsala College. Ed was honest, modest, compassionate and great story teller. He was a great high school athlete in Philly playing both baseball and basketball. He would joke about being a ringer [...]
